I'm a contemporary romance author that can't help adding a little snark to my stories. I'm obsessed with music, television, and reading...the order changes day by day. The only thing in my life that remains constant is the need to build a story.

Catching up

Nanovember was a bit nuts. I didn’t get all the way to 50k, but I did manage to finish up a novella–at least the first draft. I sub’d the first 5 pages and blurb to Entangled to see if they’re interested in seeing a full. If not, I’ll probably shop it around. I think it’s a strong piece about love and loss and hope for the future. This one is pretty near and dear to me thanks to the subject matter. I need to step away from it for a few days and see if I’m TOO close.

Sometimes you can’t see the old forest for the trees when you are close to a story. The urge to edit it right away is sitting there on my shoulder…but I’m trying to be smart about it.

Next novel on the docket…my original story idea for NaNo. LOL The Kiss Contract, which will be book 1 of the Kiss Kakes series that my CP and I are developing.

Right now? A little Christmas fun with some online people that started me on this lovely and long road to publication.

REVIEW: Sweet Inspiration, Penny Watson

Sweet Inspiration (Klaus Brothers, #1)Sweet Inspiration by Penny Watson

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

3.5 stars

I enjoyed this. It was a little on the sugar-sweet end for me to get all the way to 4 stars. I think that’s just a matter of personal…well, taste to be completely honest.

The world Mz. Watson created was amazing. The elves and the history of Christmas was well done. Even the descriptions of the magic and the setting really filled me with a sense of wonder. I just wish it had been a bit more on the ‘show’ end, than telling us everything when it came to the couple.

Lucy swallowed the fantastical North Pole without blinking an eye. I get the seeing is believing thing, but I think if Mz. Watson had given us a little more of an OMG moment there instead of the dusting of confectionery sugar on everything, I would have forgiven the ultra sweet dialogue a little more.

The family aspect was another plus. Enough that I’m interested to see just how the series will move along. The writing was strong enough that I think I’ll give book #2 a try.
