I enjoyed this. It was a little on the sugar-sweet end for me to get all the way to 4 stars. I think that's just a matter of personal...well, taste to be completely honest.
The world Mz. Watson created was amazing. The elves and the history of Christmas was well done. Even the descriptions of the magic and the setting really filled me with a sense of wonder. I just wish it had been a bit more on the 'show' end, than telling us everything when it came to the couple.
Lucy swallowed the fantastical North Pole without blinking an eye. I get the seeing is believing thing, but I think if Mz. Watson had given us a little more of an OMG moment there instead of the dusting of confectionery sugar on everything, I would have forgiven the ultra sweet dialogue a little more.
The family aspect was another plus. Enough that I'm interested to see just how the series will move along. The writing was strong enough that I think I'll give book #2 a try.
